Dat blijkt uit een artikel in Nature Microbiology. Onderzoekers gaven een groep muizen meerdere kuren antibiotica en stelden vast dat de kans dat deze muizen type 1 diabetes ontwikkelden twee keer zo groot was als bij de muizen die geen antibiotica kregen. De vervolgstap is onderzoeken of een vergelijkbaar onderzoek bij mensen tot dezelfde conclusie leidt.<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><br \/><\/div><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\">Antibiotica kunnen de darmflora be\u00efnvloeden. Uit onderzoek wordt steeds meer duidelijk over de mogelijke rol van micro-organismen in de darmen bij de ontwikkeling van type 1 diabetes. Welke rol deze micro-organismen exact spelen, is echter nog niet duidelijk. Ook weten we eigenlijk nog te weinig over hoe type 1 diabetes zich ontwikkelt. Waarschijnlijk zijn hier meerdere oorzaken voor.<\/div><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\"><br \/><\/div><div class=\"_1mf _1mj\">Als er een link is tussen antibioticagebruik bij mensen en het ontwikkelen van diabetes, ligt dit vooral bij het gebruik op jonge leeftijd. Breakthrough T1D Nederland deelt dan ook de mening van de Onafhankelijke Ziekenfondsen dat artsen terughoudend moeten zijn met het gebruik van antibiotica bij kleine kinderen.
