Dit eiwit kan mogelijk de b\u00e8tacellen beschermen tegen de stressreactie die Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) veroorzaakt.<\/p>\n<p>Het onderzoek, dat werd uitgevoerd met muizen, toonde aan dat muizen met een tekort aan het eiwit al snel T1D ontwikkelden. Dit kwam doordat deze muizen minder insulineproducerende b\u00e8tacellen hadden. De muizen die veel van het eiwit kregen, kregen juist meer b\u00e8tacellen. Hieruit kunnen we opmaken dat de MANF-prote\u00efne b\u00e8tacelstress kan tegengaan en b\u00e8tacellen kan helpen overleven.
