Bij inkapseling worden b\u00e8tacellen die beschermd zijn tegen de auto-immuunaanval, ge\u00efmplanteerd bij mensen met T1D. Inkapseling is een veelbelovend oplossingspad van Breakthrough T1D, waar de laatste tijd grote vooruitgang wordt geboekt.\n<div class=\"text_exposed_show\">\n\nDe bewuste prote\u00efne, genaamd CXCL12, wordt al langere tijd onderzocht door dr. Mark Poznansky. Hij ontvangt al lange tijd steun van Breakthrough T1D voor zijn onderzoek en heeft nu aangetoond dat de prote\u00efne gebruikt kan worden in een inkapselingssysteem. Als het systeem wordt ge\u00efmplanteerd zorgt de prote\u00efne ervoor dat de auto-immuunreactie lokaal wordt uitgeschakeld, waardoor het systeem wordt beschermd.\n\nDe eerste experimenten lieten zien dat dieren die werden ge\u00efmplanteerd met een inkapselingssysteem met het prote\u00efne bijna een jaar geen insuline meer hoefden toe te dienen.
