Dit kan een bijdrage leveren aan een mogelijke genezing van Type 1 Diabetes. <em>Georgia Tech<\/em> medewerkers en artsen van de <em>Emory Universiteit<\/em> hebben succesvol donor insuline producerende cellen in een diabetische muis getransplanteerd. Hierbij hebben ze biomateriaal ontwikkeld waardoor de donor insuline producerende cellen beschermt blijven. De symptomen van diabetes verdwenen binnen 10 dagen in de muis.
