De onderzoekers dienden de muizen een bepaald soort eiwit toe, die in laboratoria zorgde voor de groei van b\u00e8tacellen. Hierdoor werden de bloedsuikerwaarden van de muizen weer normaal. De alvleesklier van de muizen werd onderzocht en een bepaald soort cellen bleek te zijn veranderd in insulineproducerende cellen.
