Hierdoor wordt de dagelijkse impact van Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) vermindert.\n\nEen volledig functionele kunstmatige alvleesklier werkt met insuline en glucagon. De insuline zorgt ervoor dat de gemeten bloedsuikerwaarde omlaag wordt gebracht. Glucagon moet ervoor <span class=\"text_exposed_show\">zorgen dat te lage bloedsuikerwaardes weer omhoog kunnen worden gestuurd. Echter, tot voor kort was er geen glucagon beschikbaar die hiervoor gebruikt kon worden.<\/span>\n<div class=\"text_exposed_show\">\n\nGlucagon is een instabiel stofje. Je kent het vast wel: dat oranje doosje in de koelkast dat je hopelijk nog nooit hebt hoeven gebruiken. De huidige versie werkt met twee delen: een ampul en een injectiespuit. Je moet verschillende handelingen volbrengen voordat je de glucagon kan inspuiten bij een te lage bloedsuikerwaarde. Hierdoor is deze vorm van glucagon niet geschikt voor een kunstmatige alvleesklier.\n\nNu heeft Breakthrough T1D partner Xeris een stabiele, vloeibare glucagon ontwikkeld die in een kunstmatige alvleesklier gebruikt kan worden. In een eerste ronde klinische tests is nu gekeken of het product veilig is, hoe snel het wordt opgenomen en of het product net zo goed werkt als de huidige glucagon pen.\n\nDe G-pump glucagon bleek net zo goed te werken als de glucagon pen.
