Beoordelingsproces Aanvragen<\/h3>\nFinancieringsbesluiten zijn gebaseerd op de kwaliteit, relevantie tot onze missie en de prioriteit van het voorgestelde onderzoek. We moedigen het indienen van innovatieve, high-risk\/high-reward onderzoeksvoorstellen die veranderingen in het onderzoeksveld teweegbrengen om de missie te versnellen. ADMINISTRATIE CHECK<\/h4>\nDe eerste horde die aanvragen moeten passeren is een ‘administratie check’. Aanvragen die niet compleet zijn of niet passen bij onze algemene strategie vallen als eerste af.\n

STAP 1<\/h4>\nBij stap 1 voert ons wetenschappelijke team een eerste beoordeling uit. Zij benaderen externe reviewers en advies They call on external reviewers and advisory committees (including lay members) to advise them on most applications. And all applications for larger amounts of funding, all clinical studies and all opportunities involving companies are reviewed in this way. To assess the scientific merit and validity of any proposal, criteria for review include:\n
  • Scientific validity and merit of proposed research<\/li>\n \t
  • Technical feasibility of proposed research<\/li>\n \t
  • Significance of the research:\n
    • Impact on accelerating discovery, development, or evaluation of type 1 diabetes therapeutics<\/li>\n \t
    • Potential translation to human type 1 diabetes<\/li>\n \t
    • Addressing a critical research gap<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/li>\n \t
    • Innovation:\n
      • Potential for change in a paradigm<\/li>\n \t
      • Potential for a seminal discovery<\/li>\n \t
      • Novel approaches to solving a problem<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/li>\n \t
      • Ability to complete the research in the funding period<\/li>\n<\/ul>

        STAGE 2<\/h4>\nThe applications that make it past stage 1 are then looked at by the senior management team of our Research department. This team decides on how each application fits in with our research strategy and our specific research goals. This team is particularly interested in projects that they think can be developed into real therapies fastest. Additional criteria for review include:\n
        • Relevance of the proposed research to our overall goals<\/li>\n \t
        • Relevance of the proposed research to specific research priorities<\/li>\n \t
        • Relevance of the proposed research in complementing our existing project portfolio<\/li>\n<\/ul>

          STAGE 3<\/h4>\nIf the application makes it to stage 3, the final decision on whether the project gets funded rests with the Breakthrough T1D president (for projects with smaller budgets) or, for all other projects, with the executive research committee of our board of directors (approximately half of this committee are lay people).\n
